Derriaghy Chess Club was re-organized in 2007 from Hillsborrough Chess Club, founded in 2000.
It is affiliated to the Ulster Chess Union.
Members are drawn in from Dunmurry, Derriaghy, Lisburn, Hillsborough and the surrounding villages. The club does not implement a committee structure,
but instead relies on members’ good will to contribute to the practical running of the club.
We gladly welcome new members, irrespective of playing strength or experience as our
aim is to grow the chess community in the region both in number and in strength.
If you wish to learn how to play we can teach you. If you are a beginner
we will do what we can to coach you. As a strong player perhaps you can
help us! Membership fees for the year are £25 full, £15 concession,
payable on your third evening at the club. Concession includes youth,
student, retired and unemployed.
Club nights are each Wednesday throughout the season, October to Easter,
see calendar for further details.
TheChess Club normally meets from 7:30pm to
to 10:30pm (Novices could expect some coaching, then games).
The season consists of friendly games, organised tournaments amongst club members
and matches in the Belfast and District League.
In the season [ 2008-09 ] we again downsized to one League team,

The move from Hillsborough village to Derriaghy Cricket Club in 2004 followed the demolition of our previous home,
the Barry Room of the Downshire Hall on Ballynahinch Street.
